For the construction of a new recreational harbour in the Baltic Sea, the TSHD Willem Sr created an island in March 2023.

The new island harbour is located 600 meters off the coast of the seaside resort of Prerow. The harbour is connected to the mainland with a 720 meter long pier. The harbour will also be the new base for a DGzRS rescue cruiser. This means that the emergency harbour no longer needs to be used and this harbour can be returned to the “Darβer Ort” nature reserve.

The Willem Sr has reclaimed part of this new harbour. A building for the DGzRS will be built on the reclaimed island and the island will connect the harbour with the pier. The required sand was dredged off the coast of Warnemünde by the Willem Sr. The Willem Sr then unloaded this sand at the already partly built island harbour.

Because a significant part of the island harbour had already been built, the space for the Willem Sr was very limited. The water depth in the bay was also limited.

During the execution of the project there was constant close contact between the contractor and the ship. Together we looked at what the possibilities were and how the work could be carried out as efficiently as possible. For example, it was decided to use a pontoon with spuds. This meant that the Willem Sr was in a stable position and the sand could be sprayed more accurately and safely.

Our part of this project was completed on time and to the customer’s satisfaction. Filia Dredging is proud of its contribution to this island harbour as a beautiful addition to beautiful Perow.
